Before & After: I Love Lamp

I Love Lamp.

I love lamps that don't cost more than $10

Picked up this little guy for $7 at the thrift store.  Great bones.

A little paint, a little love and a couple of tiny lampshades from the craft store...VOILA!

DIY: Laundry Room Lost & Found

We have an epidemic in our Laundry Room.  It's the epidemic of lost socks.  I swear the dryer eats them!  I decided that a little laundry room revamp was in order and it starts with a place to keep those little lost socks--that multiply!

All the little single socks end up collecting dust while hanging out on top of the dryer--either that or they just end up getting really lost.

I started with a scrap piece of wood that was lying around in the garage.  Hope they hubby doesn't need it for anything!  It's mine now!!

I sanded down the edges and a few of the rough areas.  Easy, peasy.  I covered the entire board in a pretty beachy shade of blue.  It reminds of clean.  In a laundry room....clean is good.

The color is Ocean Breeze and the brand is craft smart, which is you can grab at Michaels!

I used my silhouette and some vinyl to create a silk screen stencil.  If you've never created a silk screen, check out my previous post (the one right before this) and it will give you what you need!
.

I didn't have an embroidery hoop large enough to fit this screen, so I had a few leaks with my white paint.  I used a bit of spray adhesive to stick the stencil down while I applied the paint.

See where the paint leaked a bit???

No worries, a few cotton swabs and some water cleaned up the lines in a jiff!

I had these adorable vintage style clips in my scrap stash and decided they would be perfect to clip the socks to!

Once my paint was dry, I gave the board a little sanding to distress it and sealed it with some acrylic matte sealer.

Originally, I thought I would screw in the little clips--only I couldn't quite get a screw driver in the tiny little space.  Instead I used industrial adhesive E-6000 which you can pick up at your local craft store.  This stuff is the most amazing glue!  Be careful, you can glue your fingers together!!!  Be sure to use in a well ventilated area!!

And here's my little Laundry Redeaux!  I also hung a couple of clothes pin canvas that I snagged at Hobby Lobby on Clearance!  I love 90% off!!!!

What do you think????

I love my Laundry soap jars.  Anyone interested in my Laundry soap recipe??

I'll do a little video tutorial next time I make some, one batch lasts us a few months :)

Happy Crafting!!

Faux Mercury Glass Tutorial

I love mercury glass.  I love that old, vintage, worn out shine.  I don't love the mercury, I mean who wants to be mad as a hatter?  Not me!

I fell in love with these oversized hurricane lanterns from Mythology--but it's $140 for ONE.  ummmm...not in my budget.  And even if it was, why would I pay $140 for something that will probably be broken by a soccer ball flying through the house??

So I found my own glass hurricane lanterns at Goodwill for $2.99 each.  the are perfect!!  Big and oversized, just begging to be mercurized!  I hopped over to Hobby Lobby and picked up a can of Krylon Looking Glass Paint.  Now I'm set!

Check out the video tutorial and you'll be turning every piece of clear glass you own into Fauz Mercury Glass!

Before and After: French Modern Louis XVI Style Striped Chest of Drawers

AVAILABLE
$325

This fabulous find is from an old antique store.  She's a vintage beauty!  Great lines, solid wood!

 Gorgeous Acanthus Leaf Hardware!
I started with a a coat of Chalk Paint in Old White on the Cabinet and all the drawers.
The front panels and the inside of the drawers were painted in Duck Egg Blue.  I lined them up to guild silver stripes out of gilding wax.  I taped off the stripes using painters tape.
The hardware received some silver gilding as well!  So pretty!
Finished the entire thing of with a coat of clear wax.

Before and After: Shabby Chic Antique Fireside Ottoman

So I met some super fabulous people who were selling off the remnants of their grandfathers antique store.  This is one of the MANY pieces I purchased.  She's not much to look at now.  Tired finish and ugly, faded floral tapestry fabric.  With no cush for our tush! Or your toes for that matter.  But, look at the bones!  This gals gotta great shape and just needs a little makeover!

I took the seat off and layered on some Chalk Paint in Old White.  While it was drying I set to work on reupholstering the seat.
I found some bright and cheery fabric with the colors I love so much right now--turqouise and teal!  Don't you love the pattern?  It's sort of Gypsy meets shabby chic!
I even covered buttons in matching fabric and did some light tufting.  Gorgeous!!!

Now she's a beauty with new life!!!
